Just an hour drive north from Zagreb we will visit best preserved and most visited Croatian Castle, situated on the shore of a lake – Trakoscan Castle.
This Gothic castle from 13th century was owned by the powerful Draskovic family until mid-20th century. Today is restored in museum and you can enjoy its mix of Neo Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque styles, portraits in the knight´s room and many original artworks and furnishing dating from centuries ago. Take a walk along the lake side and amazing English-style gardens.
Just half an hour drive further we will reach another type of a Burg build for protection in Middle Ages. Veliki Tabor has been fully renovated in 2015 and you can admire its fairy tale look on the top of the hill with its white massive walls and red-roofed towers.
Among many of legends connected to this Castle, the most touching one is the Croatian version of “Romeo & Juliet” about forbidden love of a count and the peasant and its tragic ending- kind of stories that gives the soul to this mighty old Castle…
