OVERVIEW

The heart of our five-star holiday villa in Dubrovnik is the spacious living room and dining room, set around an open fireplace. Exposed wooden stairs transport you to three beautiful bedrooms, with original wood floors and timber ceiling-beams. The master bedroom features separate bathrooms – one with a vintage self-standing bath – offering wonderful views over Lokrum Island.

Villa Agave has a rustic Mediterranean style all its own, thanks to the previous owners’ passion for antiques and art. Many wonderful pieces vie for your attention, from a rocking-horse chair and beautiful 100-year-old floral rug to huge artworks on the walls by respected Croatian artists Milovan Stanić and Romana Milutin Fabris.

The villa rests on the remains of the 13th-century chapel of St Lazarus, its ruins still visible, with part of the villa’s meditation room believed to have two of the chapel’s original walls. The stone walls in one of the bedrooms hark back to a time when the villa was a traditional tavern.

Villa Agave is a favourite destination for celebrities, including Mickey Rourke, Morgan Freeman and acclaimed film director Francis Ford Coppola. Kevin Spacey even made a return visit to celebrate his 50th birthday.
